I didn’t want to build this.
I really didn’t.
Sure, I started my career off as a journalist, but it was something I did to make a living—not because I was especially passionate about it.
But seeing The City Paper and The Post-Gazette announce their closures terrified me.
As a society, we need newspapers.
After all, there’s incredible power in the press. Through written news, we’re given the opportunity, privilege, and right to hold our government accountable, to fight back against injustices, and celebrate the good in our community.
There is immeasurable value in journalism.
And we can’t sit by as our press institutions disappear.
So, this is my modest gift to the community.
It’s not a partisan publication, but it is a humanist publication.
Humanism is, at its core, the pursuit of what is right, just, and fair for all people. While that may sometimes appeal to certain sides of the political spectrum, our ultimate goal is to foster a community where all people feel respected, represented, and valued.
The Pittsburgh Aggregator is my attempt at a level playing field.
